The ‘Agria’ Kennel(English Version)

András Korózs — or as everyone knew him, “Bandi” — was passionate about animals from a very young age. His first pets were “just” a pair of canaries that his parents gave him for his birthday, but for him, it was the happiest birthday ever — he must have been around six years old. The sandwiches his parents packed for school often ended up in the mouths of dogs he met along the way — either going or coming home. He got his first dog at the age of eight after much pleading with his parents — she was Córa, a wire-haired fox terrier. Córa’s first two litters were born under her breeder’s kennel name, but after that, Bandi established the AGRIA kennel around 1975. “Agria” is the old name for the city of Eger, where he was born and lived. His life was anything but conventional — even as a child. He didn’t go to parties, discos, or the movies like others his age. His free time was filled with dog shows, terrier trials, and helping his parents with beekeeping. Even back then, he pursued what later became his life’s work with incredible dedication and passion. He was barely more than a child when he set off across Europe with just a backpack and a plan to complete carefully chosen dog pairings. I can still hear the stories of those journeys echoing in my ears. He was already importing dogs from “the West” at a time when such things were nearly impossible for ordinary people. The time, money, and energy he invested soon began to pay off: he achieved success after success at dog shows, eventually with his own line of both smooth and wire-haired fox terriers. Even during his military service, he didn’t abandon his passion. He found partners to help raise litters — most notably Aladár Puy and his wife, Klára, who were the most respected breeders in Hungary and the surrounding region at the time. Their kennel, ‘Bári’, was well known. They saw the young boy’s devotion to dogs and supported him — even though he was still a relative unknown then. Over time, other breeds also caught his interest. Under the Agria kennel name, not only fox terrier litters were born during the more than 45 years of its existence. Perhaps the Great Dane was the breed closest to his heart after fox terriers — he invested a lot of time, energy, and money into them. But in breeding terms, he never quite found success; the litters he had high hopes for didn’t bring the results he had envisioned. His last Great Dane litter was born over 20 years ago. In contrast, his fox terriers laid the foundations for kennels in many countries, with his dogs becoming integral to numerous breeding programs. He developed strong relationships with Europe’s leading breeders and collaborated with several, producing many successful litters and show dogs. His first dog to achieve worldwide fame — and who remains a legend in the breed to this day — was MultiCh. Agria Giorgio Armani, born around 2003. If I recall correctly, he was perhaps the first smooth fox terrier from Eastern Europe to earn the English Champion title without being born in England. He later became an American and Australian Champion, in addition to winning numerous European titles. Perhaps even more importantly, as a stud dog, he made a lasting impact on the fox terrier world. Giorgio marked the turning point when the Agria name became internationally recognized — not just in Europe. Bandi always had a vision for the pairings he wanted to pursue. For the past 20 years, I have been actively involved in these plans. We discussed everything and planned each step carefully. We always approached each litter with caution — sadly, this breed is undeservedly not very popular, and finding the right homes for puppies is never an easy task. Not every puppy in a litter becomes a “World Winner,” but we are committed to finding loving homes even for those with average appearance. In the last 10 years, we have been very fortunate — several top-class dogs were born in our kennel, which is not something that happens every day. There hasn’t been a single year without an Agria dog winning a World or European title, or without a continent-winning fox terrier that traces back to Agria breeding. In 2017, Agria Zip Code won BOB (Best of Breed) at Crufts, and even made it into the final eight of the group. Bandi handled him himself, and he was as nervous as a beginner. That win brought him immense joy — it was a dream come true, a reward for all the energy and knowledge he had poured into his breeding. That same year, Zip Code became an English Champion, and went on to win Best in Show at the Gold Cup, the annual show of the English Fox Terrier Club. In 2022, at the European Dog Show in Paris, Agria Zarina won BOB from the junior class, then went on to win Junior Best in Show, an incredible achievement for a smooth fox terrier. Her littermate, Agria Zoella, won Junior World Winner and Best Junior in Madrid, handled by Bálint, Bandi’s son, who had taken over the handling duties a few years prior. We have exported to nearly every corner of the world, where our dogs have continued to prove themselves both as show and breeding dogs — proof that all the decades of experience and dedication truly pay off in time. He had so many plans left… Even on his sickbed, he was still thinking about and directing us — guiding us on how to care for and observe each member of the fox terrier team. His new rising star, Agria Dolce & Gabbana (Dolce), won Best in Show at the Komárom CACIB show last fall at just 9 months old. She then repeated her success with Bálint in Bratislava this February. Surely, he was watching proudly from above… and I trust he’ll continue to be proud of us many more times, because we will carry on the Agria kennel. His son Bálint will now take over the breeding. We will bring to life all those plans we dreamed up together — and I’m sure, whenever we have doubts, we will still feel his guiding hand.

Korózs András, de ahogyan mindenki ismerte ’Bandi’ már kicsi gyermek korától rajongott az
állatokért. Először ’csak’ egy kanári pár volt amivel szülei meglepték a születésnapjára, de neki ez volt a legboldogabb születésnap addig, 6 éves lehetett akkor.
Az iskolába csomagolt szendvicseket mindig valami kutya kapta meg útközben, akivel találkozott
menetbe vagy jövetbe.
Első kutyáját 8 évesen kapta szülei hosszú unszolására, ő volt Córa a drótszőrű foxterrier.
Córa első 2 alma még tenyésztője kennelnevén született, ez után alapította az AGRIA kennelt 1975
környékén. AGRIA, ami Eger régi neve, ahol született és élt.
Az Ő élete nem egy szokványos életpálya volt már gyermekként sem. Ő nem járt bulikba, disco-ba,
moziba mint kortársai. Kutyakiállítás, kotorékverseny töltötte ki a szabad idejét, illetve szüleinek
segített nagyon sokat a méhészetben. Már akkor is nagy fanatizmussal és odaadással csinálta azt, ami aztán az egész életét kitöltötte.
Még szinte gyerek volt, mikor vonattal, egy hátizsákkal neki indult Europának és végrehajtotta az
eltervezett párosításokat. A sztorik most is itt csengenek a fülemben.
Kutyákat importált már akkor „nyugatról”, amikor ez még szinte elérhetetlen volt az egyszerű
halandók számára. Az a belefektetett idő, pénz, energia hamarosan megtérülni látszott, sikert sikerre halmozott a kiállításokon, egy idő után már saját tenyésztésű sima és drótszőrű foxterrierjeivel.
Mikor bevonult katonának, akkor sem hagyott fel a hobbijával, talált partnert az alom felneveléséhez, méghozzá Puy Aladár és felesége Klára személyében. Akkor az ő tenyészetük volt a legelismertebb itthon és a környékbeli országokban is, övék volt a ’Bári’ kennel. Ők is meglátták a fiatal fiúban a fanatikus kutyást és segítették akkor még szinte ismeretlenül.
A későbbiekben más fajták is vonzották, Agria kennelnév alatt nem csak foxterrier almok születtek a több mint 45 év alatt.
Talán a német dog volt az, ami még nagyon közel állt a szívéhez, sok-sok energiát és pénzt ölt a
fajtába, de valahogyan a tenyésztésben nem volt sikerélménye. A nagy reményekkel létrehozott
almok nem hozták meg igazán azt az eredményt, amire számított. Az utolsó dog alom több mint 20 éve született.
Foxterrierben viszont nagyon sok országban az ő általa tenyésztett kutyákkal alapoztak meg
kenneleket. Jó kapcsolatot alakított ki Európa vezető tenyésztőivel, többekkel kooperált is, amikből
sikeres almok, sikeres kiállítási kutyák születtek.
Első olyan kutyája, aki világhírre tett szert és azóta is legenda a fajtában MultiCh. Agria Giorgio
Armani volt. Ha jól emlékszem 2003-as születésű volt. Talán az első kelet-európai simafoxi volt, aki
nem angolként lett angol Champion. Ez után amerikai és ausztrál champion is lett a több európai
champion címe után. Talán ettől is lényegesebb, hogy mint tenyészkan tette le a lábnyomát
végérvényesen a foxis világban. Giorgio jelentette azt az áttörést, hogy ne csak itt Európában
ismerjék meg az AGRIA kennelnevet, hanem világszerte is.
Bandinak mindig voltak tervei, hogy mely párosításokat szeretne megvalósítani. Az elmúlt 20 évben már ezekben én is részt vettem aktívan. Mindig mindent együtt beszéltünk, terveztünk meg. Az elképzeléseket csak óvatosan valósítottuk meg, hiszen a fajta sajnos érdemtelenül nem népszerű, nagyon át kellett és most is át kell gondolni, hogy mikor vágunk bele egy alomba, hiszen a kölyköknek megfelelő gazdát és otthont találni nem egyszerű feladat. Egy alomban nem minden kiskutya lesz ’Világgyőztes’ és az átlagos küllemű kiskutyáknak is jó családot szánunk.
Az elmúlt 10 évben nagyon szerencsések voltunk, hiszen több klasszis kutya is született
tenyészetünkben, ami azért nem egy minden napos történet.
Nem volt év, hogy ne legyen egy Világ vagy Európa győztes AGRIA kutya, illetve hogy ne legyen Agria szülőségű kontinens győztes foxterrier.

2017-ben a Crufts-on Agria Zip Code BOB címet szerzett és a csoportban is bekerült a 8-as szűkítésbe.
Bandi vezette fel, úgy izgult mint egy kezdő, mérhetetlen boldogság volt neki ez az eredmény, nagy
álma volt, hogy ezzel teljesüljön be a tenyésztésbe vetett sok-sok energiája és tudása. Még ebben az évben angol champion is lett, nem kisebb kiállításon lett Best in Show mint az éves angol foxterrier klubkiállításon, a Gold Cup-on.
2022-ben a párizsi Európa kiállításon Agria Zarina fiatal osztályból BOB címet szerzett majd
bezsebelte a Junior Best in Show címet is, ami egy simaszőrű foxterrierrel elképesztő eredmény.
Alomtestvérével (Agria Zoella) Madridban pedig Fiatal Világgyőztes és Best Junior címet szerzett
Bálint, hiszen egy pár éve már ő vette át a kutyák hendlírozását az apjától.
Exportáltunk a Világ szinte minden szegletébe, ahol szintén sikeres kiállítási/tenyészkutyák
bizonyították, hogy a sok-sok év tapasztalata és beleinvesztált energia megtérül egy idő után.
Még annyi de annyi terve volt … még a betegágyán is azzal foglalkozott és irányított bennünket, hogy kire és hogyan figyeljünk a foxicsapatból.
Új reménysége, legfiatalabb kutyája Dolce ( Agria Dolce &Gabbana) az őszi komáromi CACIB
kiállításon 9 hónaposan már Best in Show-t nyert. Azóta februárban Bálinttal Pozsonyban szintén.
Biztosan nagyon nagyon büszkén nézte végig odefentől … és bízom benne, hogy még sokszor lesz
büszke ránk, mert tovább visszük az AGRIA kennelt, fia Bálint lesz majd a tenyésztő.
Megvalósítjuk azokat az elképzeléseit, amit még együtt tervezgettünk és biztosan kapunk majd
segítséget tőle, ha elbizonytalanodunk.
